Project formulation mission for healthcare waste management in Vietnam
|
Vietnam is a populous country that is vigorously developing its infrastructure and urban services, with considerable international partnership. The cities have achieved excellent standards of waste collection, using large labour forces and equipment that is locally designed and manufactured. However, standards of disposal are generally poor. Some steps have been taken to improve the management of healthcare waste, but the need for further progress is clear. Skat was engaged to lead a mission to assist Danida in formulating a proposal for support to the Province in Nghe An, south of Hanoi. The challenge was to develop a concept for waste disposal that would not only lead to a well constructed sanitary landfill site, but also to a high standard of day-to-day management. Some preliminary work was done to identify potential sites. Outline proposals were developed for upgrading healthcare waste operations for reducing health risks. |
