Skat's ongoing activities comprise projects with SDC, Helvetas, Swiss Red Cross, UNEP, and Swiss Tropical Institute with focus on climate change & cleaner production, sustainable building technologies and materials, assessment of the sustainability of building practices, and post-disaster reconstruction.

Sustainable Reconstruction Initiative in Tsunami affected villages of Karaikal, Pondicherry, India
Implementation: 2005-2008

The Swiss Red Cross and Swiss Solidarity, in collaboration with the lndian NGO Development Alternatives, took the initiative to reconstruct permanent houses in the Karaikal region, Pondicherry state. Skat has the mandate of conceptual and technical backstopping.

Basic Education (Girls) Project
Implementation: 2001-2007

Skat has significantly contributed to the successful implementation of the construction component of the Basic Education (Girls) Project under which 504 schools and 52 district education offices were built in areas of the country that are known as below the poverty line. The project, financed by ADB and the Government of Australia, was started in 2001 and comes to a closure in June 2007.
